  • Ready in just 15 minutes from start to finish! ⏱️
  • Uses simple ingredients for an incredibly gourmet result.
  • Endlessly customizable with your favorite sweet fillings.
  • The perfect quick dessert or indulgent snack for any day of the week.

Tools You’ll Need

Panini Press (or a heavy skillet)

Small Skillet

Spatula

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons sliced almonds
  • 2 slices sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate-hazelnut spread
  • 1 tablespoon marshmallow creme
  • 4 strawberries, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Toast the almonds in a pan over medium heat until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Spread one slice of the sourdough bread with a thick layer of the chocolate-hazelnut spread. Spread the other slice of bread with the marshmallow creme.
  3. Layer the strawberries onto the chocolate-hazelnut spread and top with a sprinkling of almonds. Then place the other slice of bread on top, marshmallow creme-side down. Press the 2 slices together.
  4. Butter one side of the sandwich and put it on a hot panini maker butter-side down. Butter the other side, close the lid and cook until the sandwich is toasted and warmed through. (If you do not have a panini maker, you can grill the sandwich in a skillet, laying another heavy skillet on top of the sandwich to press it together. Turn to grill the other side in the same way.)
  5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, cut in half and serve!

Pro Tips

  • Use stale bread for a sturdier panini that won't get soggy from the fillings.
  • Don't overfill! It might be tempting to add more, but too much filling will ooze out and make a mess in your press.
  • For extra decadence, serve with a side of vanilla ice cream for dipping.

Recipe Variations

  • Peanut Butter & Banana: Swap the chocolate spread for peanut butter and the strawberries for banana slices.
  • S'mores: Use marshmallow creme, chocolate spread, and crumbled graham crackers for the filling.
  • Apple Pie: Fill with thin apple slices, a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar, and a drizzle of caramel sauce.

FAQs

I don't have a panini press. What can I use?
No problem! Use a regular skillet and place another heavy skillet or a pot on top of the sandwich to press it down as it cooks. Flip halfway through.

Can I use frozen strawberries?
I don't recommend it, as they release too much water when thawing and will make your bread soggy. Fresh is best for this recipe.

How do I clean a panini press after making a sweet panini?
Ensure the press is unplugged and completely cool. Wipe the plates with a damp cloth or sponge. For stuck-on sugar, a paste of baking soda and water can help gently scrub it away.
